“The ultimate in safari luxe – the staff are always on a mission to surprise guests and make you feel special throughout your stay”
A elegant oasis on the forested fringes of the Mara Triangle, Bateleur Camp epitomises safari sophistication – combining classic and luxurious accommodation with impeccable and imaginative service and unbeatable wildlife and conservation adventures.
Bateleur Camp comprises two interconnecting camps – each featuring nine tented suites
“For an iconic safari experience straight from Out of Africa (parts of which were filmed in these parts), head to Bateleur Camp, owned and operated by andBeyond. Love the movie? You’ll love the real thing even more. Bateleur offers a classic and intimate safari experience in a private corner of the Masai Mara. The lodge still retains much of its romantic feel with its ambiance and aesthetics that reflects Kenya’s old safari charm.
Guests can easily spot massive elephants and giraffes ambling across the plains of the Maasai Mara from the air as they prepare to land on the nearby private airstrip. The short drive from the airstrip to the camp is typically so packed with animals that it de facto turns into guests’ first game drive.
And while the wildlife and vast, stunning landscape of the Mara are certainly the stars of the show, pulling up to the camp which sits at the foot of the Oloololo Escarpment on the rim of the Great Rift Valley – to the sounds of a singing staff – is spectacular in its own right.
The lodge encompasses two adjoining camps of nine tented suites and one family suite. Lush riverine forests surround the camps with wide expansive views of the African plains which are brimming with wildlife – especially during the Great Migration. Bush breakfasts, hot-air balloon rides, foot safaris, spot-lit night drives, and candlelit dinners elevate the experience for a truly unforgettable safari.
The camp’s extra spacious private guest tents feature a butler’s hatch on one side (hello, fresh coffee delivery in the morning without interruption) and a well-stocked mini bar with cozy seating on the other. Sunken daybeds on enlarged private verandas ensure that the breathtaking views of the animal-dotted Mara remain unobstructed from anywhere inside the tent – your bed is one of the best game spotting locations.
Ensuite bathrooms are particularly spectacular with grand copper bathtubs looking out over private stone courtyards, which also house outdoor rain showers (those shy about being au naturel alongside the local flora and fauna needn’t worry, indoor showers are also included).
The camp’s two infinity pools have views of the plains where guests can observe lumbering elephants while practicing their breaststroke. Other features include a fitness center with floor-to-ceiling glass walls (that can roll back to let the fresh plains air flow in), as well as a Safari Shop offering luxury products from the region’s designers alongside locally-produced crafts. Not to mention the coffee and gin bar, serving Kenyan coffee drinks by day and expertly-crafted cocktails made with a variety of African gins by night.
But of course, we recommend not spending too much time in the admittedly gorgeous lodge because, well, you came for the Big Five. So hop in a jeep and take advantage of andBeyond’s expertly guided game drives, also available at night thanks to the camp’s 2,000-acre private concession. And be prepared for all kinds of surprise pop-ups in the bush (hint: stops may involve bonfires and cocktails).”

Destination - The Masai Mara
Located in Southwestern Kenya alongside the Tanzanian border, The Masai Mara, together with the adjoining Serengeti National Park, forms one of the world’s most diverse and spectacular eco-systems. A region characterised by short grass savannah plains interspersed with areas of riverine forest and bordered by towering rocky escarpments, The Mara is home to an incredible abundance and variety of wild animals and is renowned worldwide as Africa’s most exceptional – and loveliest – safari destination.
The Maasai Mara National Reserve covers an area of 1,510 sq. km (580 sq. miles) at altitudes which range from 1500 to 2170 metres above sea level. The area has one of the highest lion densities in world, together with significant populations of cheetah, leopard, elephant and buffalo, and this is where over two million wildebeest, zebra and Thomsons Gazelle migrate annually. Home to over 95 species of mammal and 570 recorded species of bird, excellent ‘Big Five’ year-round game viewing is virtually guaranteed.
Beyond the northern and eastern boundaries of the National Reserve, many former cattle ranches and agricultural lands have been transformed into private conservancies. These are exclusive wildlife reserves committed to high-end, low-density tourism together with community and environmental initiatives and accessed only by guests staying within these designated areas. Here, walking and riding safaris, night game drives and other adventurous activities not permitted in the National Reserve are often on the safari menu.

Visitors' Book
“We spent four nights here and absolutely everything was so well done; every little detail was just amazing. The camp is beautiful, set in a forest, the rooms are luxurious and very stylish and have amazing views- just perfect, meals – wherever you have them are so good and Puya our guide was unbelievable- so knowledgeable, so calm and we had great days out in the bush with him. We celebrated our wedding anniversary there and will never forget such a special time, or the wonderful Masia dancing for us.”
