Sirai Beach
Kilifi Plantation

“The ultimate place to relax and the perfect way to either begin or finish your Kenyan trip.”

A magnificent private retreat designed and built in contemporary Swahili style, Sirai Beach is unmatched on the Kenyan coast. Serene, secluded and set high on a coral clifftop overlooking the Indian Ocean, it offers exceptional standards of design and comfort along with superb gastronomy and service.

Sirai Beach accommodates up to 12 guests in 6 air-conditioned bedroom suites

All About Sirai Beach

“Sirai Beach is a home. Not a hotel, nor a lodge, nor a resort. It’s a six-bedroom, exclusive-use home that boasts an impressive set of facilities and exudes luxury. The grounds are vast, the views are stunning and there is an abundance of space and luxury. Then they back it up with extremely attentive service, excellent food and an atmosphere of sheer tranquillity.”

A glamorous private sanctuary set in five peaceful oceanfront acres, Sirai Beach, completed in 2018, epitomises luxury and exclusivity.  Its interiors and styling are cool, cosmopolitan and harmonious – combining traditional Lamu plasterwork and woodwork crafted by local artisans with gorgeous decorative pieces, artworks and sculptures sourced from Kenya, Morocco, India, South Africa and beyond.

The imposing Main House is arranged around a dramatic double-height entrance atrium and beautiful open veranda, flanked by a sumptuous drawing room on one side and a light and airy dining room on the other.  Dine here indoors or outside on the terrace under the canopy of a giant baobab tree – or alfresco anywhere else in the grounds – the choice is yours.

The palatial Master Suite stretches across the entire first floor of the Main House.  As well as bedroom, bathroom and dressing room, it contains a sitting room and private study, two covered terraces and an elevated veranda with sweeping views of the dramatic infinity pool and the sparkling ocean beyond. Stairs lead up to a further private roof terrace on the second floor.

The five further bedroom suites are housed in three separate guest cottages.  All have lovely garden and sea views, breezy verandas and makuti-thatched private roof terraces with inviting day beds.  Every suite is air-conditioned, has silent ceiling fans and beds dressed in 400-thread Egyptian cotton sourced directly from the Nile Valley.  Each bathroom has a polished concrete bath, twin basins and indoor and outdoor showers.

The 25-metre swimming pool is framed by ancient baobabs and coconut palms, and the pool area features a fully-stocked bar, shady and relaxing day beds and sun loungers.  A spiral staircase cut down through the coral cliff leads to the seashore and beach via the house’s own private access tunnel.

Every aspect of Sirai Beach is exceptionally well thought-out and the property is beautifully appointed, furnished, decorated and finished throughout. Among the facilities for guests are a spa, fully-equipped gym, floodlit Astro-turf tennis court, media room, extensive wine cellar, boutique, guest kitchen and state-of-the-art communications and entertainment systems.

The extensive Sirai Beach team are welcoming, assiduous, discreet and attentive – they make a point of understanding and anticipating guests’ preferences and requirements.

Healthy eating is central to Sirai Beach. Mouth-watering meals are conjured up from locally- sourced ingredients and line-caught fish plucked straight from the ocean by trusted local fisherman who follow responsible fishing practices.  Head Chef Thoya specialises in fusing Mediterranean influences with his love of Kenyan ingredients and will create dishes to suit guests’ specific tastes.  Don’t miss his signature lobster ravioli with saffron butter and legendary tuna carpaccio.

In addition to the main professional house kitchen, where guests will find Chef and team working their magic, there is a front kitchen where drinks and snacks are always available. Fresh juices and smoothies can be whizzed up whenever guests wish and Chef is happy to give cookery lessons too.

The cellar houses a collection of fine wines and champagnes, stored on purpose-designed hardwood racks.  In addition to the excellent selection of ‘house’ wines and champagne – personally selected by the owners and included in the tariff – guests can also discover vintages from many of the world’s most famous wine estates.

The well-equipped gym features free weights, cardiovascular machines and yoga and Pilates accessories. At the spa, a therapist is available for treatments on request throughout the day and Pilates and yoga sessions with experienced instructors can be arranged. The Astroturf tennis court is floodlit and can be enjoyed in the cool of the evening as well as during the day, and tennis coaching can be arranged upon request.

Scuba-diving, dhow cruises, sailing, kite surfing, wakeboarding, water skiing, jet skiing and windsurfing can be enjoyed from a small beach just a stone’s throw away from the house at the tip of Kilifi Creek.

Sirai Sea, a powerful, luxurious and superbly-equipped 38-foot bill fishing boat is available for private charters and ocean safaris. One of the world’s top destinations for game fishing, Kenya’s coastal waters hold large numbers of Blue, Black and Striped Marlin, Broadbill and Sailfish.

Every year between July and September hundreds of Humpback Whales migrate from the Antarctic to Kenyan waters to congregate, give birth and mate – viewing these giants of the ocean can be spectacular and rewarding. Bottlenose, Spinner and Humpback Dolphins can all be seen year-round, with the clearest water and best viewing from November to April.

Destination Kenya Coast

Kenya’s beautiful Indian Ocean coast stretches for more than 300 miles (500 km) and feels a world away from ‘upcountry’ East Africa. The coast is fringed by white sand beaches, backed by coconut palms and towering sand dunes, interspersed with mangrove flats, ancient forests and sheltered coastal creeks and anchorages. Another marked contrast is its enduring and distinctive Swahili culture – a unique amalgam of African, Arabian, Indian and European influences – which reveal themselves in the coast’s religious and social traditions, food, architecture and many other aspects of daily life. Its towns and villages, sometimes bustling but often sleepy, remain tranquil, traditional and welcoming.

Kenya’s beaches and coastal waters are nesting sites and home to five endangered species of sea turtle. Offshore coral reefs shelter much of the coastline and provide a crucial habitat for a wonderful variety of marine life. Scuba diving and snorkelling provide a window into this extraordinary underwater world. Two of its most spectacular areas are within Marine National Parks off Watamu and Malindi – both are also world-renowned centres for deep sea fishing. South of Mombasa, Diani Beach is regularly voted one of the most beautiful in Africa. An adventure sports hub, renowned for kitesurfing, skydiving and ocean fishing, its coastal woodland has a large population of lively black-and-white Colobus monkeys.

Kenya’s coastal settlements house the historic remains of a network of ancient city states that stretched the length of the East African coast – from Mogadishu in the north to Mozambique Island in the south. These ports were the gateways for external trade with Africa – exporting slaves, ivory, tortoiseshell, animal hides, ambergris and other precious commodities to Arabia, Europe and across the Indian Ocean. Lamu Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the oldest living town south of the Sahara and the region’s best-preserved historic settlement. The ‘old town’ in Mombasa, Kenya’s second city and East Africa’s busiest port, is home to Fort Jesus – a magnificent Portuguese citadel built in the 1590s.

There are several scheduled flights daily from Nairobi to Lamu, Malindi, Vipingo, Mombasa and Diani/Ukunda. Safari destinations in the Masai Mara and Tsavo are also served by Mombasa’s Moi International Airport, as are Zanzibar and Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania. Mombasa also receives international flights from Dubai and Addis Ababa, and seasonal flights from Rome and Frankfurt. An alternative route to the Indian Ocean coast is via Kenya’s new Standard Guage Railway (SGR) which was completed in 2017 and connects Nairobi with Mombasa. The scenic 470 km (290 mile) journey takes around 6 hours by express train. Our travel team will be pleased to advise and plan your journey to the coast and beyond.
