“If you can only visit one place in Kenya, make it Angama Mara”
Spectacular and celebrated Angama Mara re-imagines and redefines the East African luxury safari experience. This impeccable and awe-inspiring lodge combines sleek and sophisticated accommodation with outstandingly warm and personal service and incredible wildlife experiences.
Angama Mara consists of two identical and intimate camps – each featuring fifteen tented suites
“Angama’s glass fronted suites give you breathtaking 180-views of the savannah, whether you’re lying in bed or taking a shower. This is no traditional safari set-up – the sleek, Italian-inflected design gives the place cosmopolitan flair, as does a pavilion with a library, boutique, fitness room, and infinity pool – all while embracing the wild surroundings.”
Days at Angama can be as action-packed or as gentle as you prefer – there is never any set safari schedule or agenda. The marvellous Mara Triangle is a mere 15-minute drive from the lodge and, in addition to expertly-guided game drives, guests can experience hot air balloon flights, walking safaris and cultural visits to Masai villages. Or you might simply prefer to relax and do nothing at all…
The Maasai Mara is also home to more than 470 bird species, including almost 60 raptors such as vultures and Martial Eagles, and signature species including the Lilac-breasted Roller, Superb Starling, Pygmy Falcon, Grey Crowned Crane and endangered Ground Hornbill. Whether you are first-timers or enthusiastic ornithologists, Angama’s experienced guides will tailor-make your birding safari.
Located in the heart of Masailand, the guest experience at Angama is synonymous with Masai culture. There are many opportunities for guests to interact with these remarkable people, both at the lodge and in the surrounding communities. Meet the busy and creative Masai Mamas in the beading studio and follow the rhythmic chants of the Masai warriors to the sundowner boma, where a sunset performance awaits every evening.
Masai naturalists will guide guests on walks through the lovely forests and glades surrounding the lodge, sharing their traditional knowledge and customs. Walking safaris are tailor-made for every guest and every fitness level, from a gentle 2-hour stroll to a full day’s hike, all the while enjoying excellent birding and lovely views of the Mara plains below.
The scenic and secluded 12 x 8 metre rim-flow swimming pool, surrounded by deck chairs and loungers, is the perfect spot to cool off or bask in the sun with a good book. Around the corner is the Fitness Room with a selection of Technogym equipment – with floor-to-ceiling stacking glass doors you’ll be hard-pressed to find a treadmill with a better view in all of Africa.
The starting point for all safari guests, the nearby Map Room is a place of orientation, education, exploration and embarkation. It gives a sense of Angama’s place in the Greater Masai Mara eco-system and further within East Africa. Pore over the collection of maps and reference books – some maps were specially created for Angama, while the oldest dates back to 1608.
At the heart of the lodge is a kind, warm, fun and highly professional team of staff who always take extraordinary care of guests. The lodge family of safari guides, chefs, butlers, housekeepers, managers and others is driven by guest delight, and the pleasure of being of service runs deep at Angama.
Angama serves up a remarkable a la carte menu washed down with fine South African wines. Enoy a safari lunch in the savannah, a lantern-lit barbecue in the forest or a romantic meal for two in your tent. Private meals and special celebrations take place in the Library or Map Room. Guests can also explore the lodge’s beautiful organic shamba – followed by a soil-to-fork lunch of fresh homegrown produce, or sundowner drinks and bitings.
Don’t miss Angama’s well-equipped photographic studio, complete with opportunities for high-end camera and lens hire, professional tuition and safari photoshoots. Take part in a private photographic lesson or editing session with the on-site photographer or studio manager using the large-screen Apple desktops, loaded with all the latest software.
The helpful studio team are always on hand for technical hints and creative guidance, and guests are free to edit and print a small portfolio of their work. A professional wildlife photographer can accompany guests on a private photographic safari – or you may like to capture special family or romantic moments during your stay with a professional photoshoot by the accomplished in-house team.
Angama’s key founding principle is to make a meaningful and sustainable difference to neighbouring communities, lands and wildlife. Each guest contributes to the Angama Foundation, a separate entity active in supporting numerous initiatives across the areas of Education, Healthcare and Conservation.
The Foundation works closely with the Mara Conservancy to ensure the longevity of the Mara Triangle and the wider ecosystem. Conservation efforts supported include Collaring for Conservation, the Mara Elephant Project, the Mara Raptor Project, safeguarding the Mara’s rhinos and livestock protection. Angama’s on-site medical clinic serves the lodge’s guests and staff as well as hundreds of members of the surrounding communities.

Destination - The Masai Mara
Located in Southwestern Kenya alongside the Tanzanian border, The Masai Mara, together with the adjoining Serengeti National Park, forms one of the world’s most diverse and spectacular eco-systems. A region characterised by short grass savannah plains interspersed with areas of riverine forest and bordered by towering rocky escarpments, The Mara is home to an incredible abundance and variety of wild animals and is renowned worldwide as Africa’s most exceptional – and loveliest – safari destination.
The Maasai Mara National Reserve covers an area of 1,510 sq. km (580 sq. miles) at altitudes which range from 1500 to 2170 metres above sea level. The area has one of the highest lion densities in world, together with significant populations of cheetah, leopard, elephant and buffalo, and this is where over two million wildebeest, zebra and Thomsons Gazelle migrate annually. Home to over 95 species of mammal and 570 recorded species of bird, excellent ‘Big Five’ year-round game viewing is virtually guaranteed.
Beyond the northern and eastern boundaries of the National Reserve, many former cattle ranches and agricultural lands have been transformed into private conservancies. These are exclusive wildlife reserves committed to high-end, low-density tourism together with community and environmental initiatives and accessed only by guests staying within these designated areas. Here, walking and riding safaris, night game drives and other adventurous activities not permitted in the National Reserve are often on the safari menu.

“The property is absolutely stunning with amazing views of the Masai Mara and beautifully appointed luxury tents. But the staff are where Angama Mara shines! Our safari guide and driver, Robert, was so warm and knowledgeable. He went above and beyond to ensure our kids were having fun and helped us spot the elusive leopard! Doris, our camp manager, was an absolute gem! From arrival to departure she ensured we had the most incredible and memorable stay. This was a multi-generational trip, with a grandparent and two young children all along for their first safari adventure. Doris made sure we had the most memorable and special end to our trip. From arranging for special treats for the kids to an amazing walking safari with a photographer to capture our stay, she went above and beyond. We had a minor medical situation and they even have a doctor on site at all times. Doris had him come quickly to assess and assist and checked in after. The food was spectacular, with lovely bush breakfasts and lunches. A food highlight was the Boma lunch in the garden – it is not to be missed and it was the best meal of our stay! We had a special place in our hearts for Angama Mara after our first stay there, and even more so now. We will be back!”
“Showstopping views. Gorgeous interior design and architecture. Huge rooms with claw foot tubs. Lots of personal attention from Francis (dining butler) and Roy (room butler). Ekai and Jacob our guides were very determined to get us our wish list of animal experiences. Great companions. Lots of laughs. Super memorable game drives. We loved the Masai evening at the Boma where they recognized our birthdays and the shamba lunch in the garden. And the cool boutique where we did custom beading. We loved it all!”
“We finished a 5 night stay at Angama Mara a couple days ago and can’t stop thinking about it. And I don’t think we ever will, either. What a magical place! The game drives, walking safari, hot air balloon ride, sundowners with the Masai, night BBQ, in-room massage, as well as the garden and ‘Out of Africa’ picnics were all simply incredible experiences. We lucked out and saw the ‘Big 5’ within our first 24 hours – simply amazing. The property is beautiful; upon arrival, looking out at the Mara for the first time, it took our breath away (we maybe even shed a tear or two). The room was beautifully appointed, and I found myself waking up early each morning just to watch the sunset from bed with a freshly brewed cup of coffee made with the in-room French press. But what makes Angama Mara so special is the staff who make you feel like you’re a part of their family. It’s only been a couple days and we miss them so! Hospitality at its finest, no doubt about it – I don’t think we heard a ‘no’ or ‘sorry’ from anyone on staff the entire time. They attend to and accommodate your every need. Special thanks to our butler Farida, guide Robert, and the camp manager Josephat who I can’t speak highly enough about. We might go back just to see them!”
